Lung cancer treatment abroad

Lung cancer is one of the most insidious diseases, primarily because most of its course passes without severe symptoms. “The lungs do not hurt” - doctors-oncologists often say. And in fact, pronounced symptoms: severe cough, sudden weight loss, asthma attacks, high fever usually occur in the last stages of the oncological process, when precious time has already been lost.

Lung cancer treatment abroad is a common area of medical tourism. Foreign medical centers use new methods of diagnosis and treatment that are not available in the post-Soviet countries.

Important! With the help of these techniques, it is possible to identify the very beginning of the pathological process in the lungs, when there is still a chance for complete deliverance of a person from a terrible disease. And in the later stages of the course of the disease, the course of treatment is developed, not only depending on the characteristics of the development of the diagnosis, but also taking into account the concomitant diseases, age, characteristics of the patient's body. Unfortunately, this is not done in many Ukrainian hospitals.

Benefits of Lung Cancer Treatment Abroad

Lung cancer treatment abroad

Lung cancer treatment in clinics abroad gives more chances, if not for a complete cure of the patient, then for a significant extension of his life. Here are the main advantages of foreign medical institutions:

  • Modern ultra-precise diagnostics are used to identify the oncological process at an early stage. Remember, every fourth patient who comes to the clinic does not have malignant neoplasms, his diagnosis is just a medical error;
  • The reaction of the tumor to the action of the drug is regularly checked, which allows, if necessary, to change the tactics of treatment, using surgical or medical treatment;
  • During the surgical intervention, the most gentle and minimally traumatic techniques are used to preserve the organ by removing the tumor;
  • The well-coordinated work of a team consisting of specialists from different directions is used. Such teams work is especially well for surgery;
  • A large number of chemotherapy drugs are used, which are simply not available in our country. For example, about 70 types of such medicines are registered in Germany, in Russia and Ukraine - only 18;
  • The use of high quality medicines. In foreign clinics, cheap analogues of highly effective medicines are not used. High-quality chemotherapy drugs suppress tumor growth without destroying the patient's liver, without adversely affecting other internal organs;
  • The quality of the drugs used is strictly controlled. You will not find counterfeit products here.

Attention! Using teamwork in spinal surgery in Israel and other foreign medical centers allows to treat Pencost cancer, when malignant cells affect the spinal column. An oncologist removes a diseased lung, and a spinal surgeon removes an element of the spinal column with its further reconstruction.

Modern diagnostics of lung oncology abroad

Bronchoscopy for lung cancer

More than half of pathological neoplasms are secondary, i.e. metastases from another tumor, such as melanoma. Therefore, to make an accurate diagnosis, you should undergo an examination of the whole body.

Methods for diagnosing lung cancer abroad allow detecting neoplasms at the earliest stage, give the most accurate results, and help increase the effectiveness of subsequent treatment. Unfortunately, in post-Soviet countries, many of these techniques are not available.

The following techniques are used:

  • Routine laboratory tests - blood and urine tests;
  • Tests for tumor markers - determines the presence in the patient's blood of substances characteristic of the oncological process;
  • Examination of sputum for the presence of cancer cells;
  • X-ray and computed tomography of the chest;
  • Puncture of the pleural cavity - taking fluid from the lungs for analysis through a puncture of the chest wall;
  • Bronchoscopy, including endobronchial ultrasound - visual examination of the trachea and bronchi;
  • Histology and immunohistochemistry of cancer cells;
  • Osteoscanning to detect bone metastases;
  • CT and MRI of the whole body, allowing to detect the smallest secondary neoplasms of 2-3 mm.

For reference! In some German centers, a new biopsy method is available for diagnosing lung cancer - NeoLiquid liquid biopsy. It is performed without puncture of the sternum using a blood test. The technique allows you to track the reaction of the tumor to the use of therapy and select the most effective one.

Innovative treatments for lung cancer in clinics abroad

Four-dimensional computed tomography of the lungs

New methods of lung cancer treatment in clinics abroad in countries with developed medicine allow even in the last stages of the disease, not only to prolong the patient's life, but also to significantly improve its quality.

Here are some of the new techniques they use:

  1. Microcamera-guided surgery to remove small tumors is surgery in the absence of large incisions. The technology significantly reduces the period of rehabilitation after surgery and reduces the risk of complications. The development of VATS methods for operations on large neoplasms is ongoing;
  2. Four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) - used for accurate and fast diagnosis. The tomogram is removed in just 30 seconds. 4DCT also allows to assess the possibility of surgical removal of the tumor, its relationship with other organs of the chest;
  3. Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) - the doctor takes pictures directly during the radiation, which allows for more accurate targeting. The dose of radiation to healthy organs is significantly reduced, which can significantly reduce the side effects of treatment;
  4. Genetic tests that allow predicting the body's response to chemotherapy and choosing the most optimal drug;
  5. Targeted therapy is the newest method of treating pulmonary oncology that uses medications that only target the affected cells. These drugs act on specific protein components that are absent in healthy cells of the body. One type of targeted therapy is to destroy the blood vessels that feed cancerous growths. Cessation of nutrition of the neoplasm leads to its death;
  6. Immunotherapy. This is the use of biologics to stimulate the body's immune system to fight off infected cells. The most promising treatment for the future;
  7. Photodynamic therapy. Introduction of special photosensitive substances into the patient's circulatory system, which accumulate in the tumor body. Then the affected area is irradiated with light, which causes a chemical reaction with the formation of reactive oxygen species, from which cancer cells die.

Which countries and clinics do patients choose?

For the treatment of oncology in the lungs abroad, the most often chosen are:

  • Germany. It uses modern effective methods, introduced strict control over the quality of medicines and the level of qualifications of doctors;
  • Israel. The latest tests for diagnostics are used, and the world-renowned professors are being received. A great advantage is the absence of a language barrier, in any clinic there are employees who speak Russian;
  • South Korea. Cancer centers in the country are equipped on the same level with US hospitals. The country has one of the highest rates of success in cancer treatment in the world;
  • Turkey. Treatment is in no way inferior to other countries on the list, but it is much cheaper.
